We start in the morning for a
visit of Haghia Sophia which is perhaps the most impressive Byzantine site
in the city. Then we will look at from outside only to Haghia Eirene,
adjacent to Haghia Sophia but built even an earlier. Then we emerge to visit
Underground cistern, a huge cistern built in the sixt century to supply
water to the city. Nearby, Binbirdirek Cistern. After lunch break, visit
Hippodrome, the central public space for entertainment and sport events.
Afternoon drive to Kariye or church of Saint Saviour in Chora, a 14 th
century monastic church with superior mosaics depicting life of Virgin Mary
and Christ. We finish the tour with two more Byzantine churches: Church of
the Theotokos Kyriotissa followed by a visit to the Church of Pantocrator.
